With our high clinical standards and advanced technologies, your results are guaranteed to be accurate. You don't have to travel to different locations because everything is on-site! Highly developed State-of-the-art professional lab tests!
At Tampa Bay Family Clinic, we understand the importance of quality lab test results. With our advanced testing methods and tools, combined with our experience and knowledge, you'll find the true source of your symptoms or injuries in no time.
Some ultramodern analyzers are capable of running a variety of batches of samples — generating a lot of test results per hour. Usually, chemistry analyzers use samples of plasma and/or serum, and coagulation and hematology analyzers use full blood.

What Is

Laboratory Testing?

Laboratory tests examine a sample of your body tissues, blood or urine. Our technician or doctor inspect the test samples to see if your results fall within the normal range. The tests use a range because what is normal differs from person to person. A lot of factors affect test results. These include:

  • Your age, race and sex.
  • What you drink and eat.
  • Medicines you take
  • How well you followed pre-test instructions

Our doctor may also compare your results to results from previous tests. Laboratory testing is often part of a procedure examination to look for changes in your health. They also help doctors determine medical conditions, evaluate or plan treatments, and monitor diseases.

How Are Laboratory Tests Analyzed?

In many cases, an automated instrument inspects the blood sample. In some occasions, the tube of blood is placed directly onto the instrument, while in other cases, a piece of the sample is first placed into a testing tube before it is placed into the instrument. Laboratory testing is normally part of an efficient examination to look for alterations in your health.

What Do Laboratory Testing Results Show?

Our physician will examine your laboratory test results to see if you drop down within the normal range. Laboratory test values are given in range instead of a particular number because what is normal deviates from person to person.

Few laboratory tests show if a specific substance is absent or present in your body. It may show a mutation or an infectious organism to a gene that would explain your conditions or why you respond to therapies the way you do.

What to expect during your blood test appointment?

•  You won't have to do anything to prepare for most blood tests. Some require you to fast, or not eat, 8 to 12 hours beforehand. Your doctor should give you instructions before admission.

•  You may feel a pinch or sting when the needle goes into your arm. The needle will be attached to a small tube that allows blood to flow into a test tube or bag.

•  If you are having blood drawn for tests, you may need to fill one or more test tubes. The process usually takes only a few minutes.

•  If you have blood drawn as part of a treatment, the amount of time it takes depends on how much blood is needed. Most of the time it takes 2 to 3 minutes to get enough blood for a test.

•  When the lab has the amount they need, the nurse or tech will remove the needle from your arm, remove the tourniquet, and bandage the area.

Drug Testing Service In Tampa Florida

What Is A Drug Test?

A drug test examines for the presence of one or more illegal or prescription drugs in your blood, hair, saliva, sweat or urine. Urine testing is the most common type of drug screening.

What Is Drug Testing Used For?

Drug screening is used to find out whether or not a person has taken a certain drug or drugs. Can be used for:

Employment. Employers may test you before hiring and/or after hiring to inspect for on-the-job drug use.

Sports organizations. Collegiate athletes and professionals generally need to take a test for performance-enhancing drugs or other substances.

Legal or forensic purposes. Testing may be part of a vehicle accident or a criminal investigation. Drug screening may also be ordered as part of a court case.

Monitoring opioid use. If you've been prescribed an opioid for chronic pain, your health care provider may order a drug test to make sure you are taking the right amount of your medicine.

Preparing For A Drug Test

Be sure to tell your healthcare provider or the testing supplier if you are taking any prescription drugs, supplements or nonprescription medicine, because they may give you a positive result for some illegal drugs. Also, you should avoid foods with poppy seeds, which can cause a positive result for opioids.

What Drug Test Do The Results Mean?

If your results are negative, it means the level of drugs was below an established level or no drugs were found in your body, which differs depending on the drug. If your results are positive, it means one or more drugs were found in your body above an accepted level. However, false positives can happen. So if your first test shows that you have drugs in your system, you will have further testing to figure out whether or not you are actually taking a certain drug.

Spirometry Test In Tampa Florida

What Is A SpirometryTest?

Spirometry (spy-ROM-uh-tree) is a regular office test used to assess how well your lungs work by reading how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how fast you exhale.

Spirometry is used to detect chronic obstructive pulmonary, asthma, and other conditions that affect breathing. Spirometry may also be used systematically to check whether a treatment for a chronic lung condition is helping you breathe better and monitor your lung condition.

Why Is the Spirometry Test Done?

Our physician may suggest a spirometry test if he or she suspects your signs or symptoms may be caused by a chronic lung condition such as:

•  Asthma
•  COPD
•  Chronic bronchitis
•  Emphysema
•  Pulmonary fibrosis

If you've already been diagnosed with a chronic lung disorder, spirometry may be used regularly to check whether your breathing problems are under control and how well your medications are working.

Spirometry may be ordered before a planned surgery to check if your lung function is adequate for the rigors of an operation. Additionally, spirometry may be used to screen for occupational-related lung disorders.

Pap Smear Tests In Tampa Florida

What Is A Pap Smear Test?

Also called a Pap test, a Pap smear , is a method to test for cervical cancer in women. A Pap smear implies gathering cells from your cervix — the lower, narrow end of your uterus that's at the top of your vagina.

Discovering cervical cancer early with a Pap smear gives you a significant possibility at a cure. A Pap smear can also discover alterations in your cervical cells that suggest cancer may grow in the future. Discovering these unusual cells early with a Pap smear is your first step in halting the possible expansion of cervical cancer.

Why Are Smear Tests Done?

A Pap smear is used to screen for cervical cancer. The Pap smear is mostly done in conjunction with a pelvic exam. In women older than age 30, the Pap test may be combined with a test for human papillomavirus (HPV) — a typical sexually transmitted infection that can cause cervical cancer. In some cases, the HPV test may be done instead of a Pap smear.

Who should have a Pap smear?

You and your physician can decide when it's time for you to begin Pap testing and how often you should have the test. In general, doctors recommend beginning Pap testing at age 21.

Don't wait until it's late and start your examination process. From Tampa Bay Family Clinic we can support you with everything you need with your Pap Smear Tests.

Pregnancy Tests in Tampa Florida

What is a pregnancy test?

A pregnancy test can tell whether you are pregnant by verifying for a specific hormone in your blood or urine. The hormone is called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). HCG is made in a woman's placenta after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. It is as a rule made only during pregnancy.

What is it used for?

A pregnancy test is used to find out whether you are pregnant.

Why do I need a pregnancy test?

You may need this test if you think you are pregnant. Symptoms of pregnancy vary from woman to woman, but the most usual sign of early pregnancy is a missed period. Other common signs of pregnancy include:

•  Swollen, tender breasts
•  Fatigue
•  Frequent urination
•  Nausea and vomiting (also called morning sickness)
•  Bloated feeling in the abdomen

Prenatal Tests in Tampa Florida

What are Prenatal Tests?

Prenatal testing, including diagnostic tests and screening , can supply significant data about your baby's health.

Pregnancy is a time of special expectation— and, sometimes, agitation. You might worry that your baby will have health problems. While most babies are born healthy, it's important to understand your options for obtaining details about your baby's health.

Types of prenatal testing

The two main types of prenatal testing are:

Screening tests. Prenatal screening tests can recognize whether your baby is more or less likely to have certain birth weaknesses, many of which are genetic disorders. These tests include prenatal cell-free DNA screening, blood tests and a particular type of ultrasound. Prenatal screening tests are generally offered during the first or second trimester. Screening tests can't make a decisive diagnosis. If results indicate an increased risk for a genetic disorder, your health care provider will discuss your alternatives for a diagnostic test to confirm the diagnosis.

Diagnostic tests. If a screening test indicates a possible problem — or your family history, your age or medical history puts you at increased risk of having a baby with a genetic problem — you might consider an invasive prenatal diagnostic test. A diagnostic test is the only way to be sure of a diagnosis. Some diagnostic tests, such as chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis, carry a slight risk of miscarriage.

Blood Pressure Monitoring in Tampa

What Is Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring?

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is when your blood pressure is measured while you are moving around, living your normal daily life. It is measured for up to 24 hours. A small digital blood pressure monitor is attached to a belt around your waist and connected to a cuff around your upper arm. It is small enough not to affect your normal daily life and you can even sleep with it on.

Why do I need this research?

There are several reasons why we might need this:

  • To establish a diagnosis of high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • To identify patients who have higher blood pressure readings when in the clinic (known as the "white coat effect")
  • To help decide if blood pressure medication is needed
  • To help decide if any changes to your medication are needed.
  • To further investigate people whose blood pressure is difficult to control
  • To see how well a patient's blood pressure medications control blood pressure throughout the day
  • To see what happens to a patient's blood pressure overnight

How is it performed?

This type of blood pressure measurement is similar to your regular blood pressure measurement: An electronic monitor takes your blood pressure by inflating a cuff around your upper arm, then slowly releasing the pressure. Normally, the monitor is installed in your local hospital outpatient department or GP surgery.

Do I need to do something different because I am being tested?

No. Because the test is done to determine what your normal daily blood pressure is, it's important to continue your normal routine and do all the things you normally would. However, you should avoid vigorous exercise.

Do I have to sleep with the monitor on?

Yes, if your doctor or nurse requests it, it is important that you keep the monitor on at night. This will help us understand what your blood pressure is doing while you are asleep.
